Western Landscape Signed by Carl Schmidt (American 1885-1969). Raised in Minnesota, then schooled formally at Chicago's Institute of Art, Carl Schmidt painted a name for himself in American history. He was best known as one of the foremost painters of the Grand Canyon. Monumental skies and horizons were his stock and trade. He also dabbled in religious art. Carl's works tend to be impressionistic, with mood and atmosphere. Pictured here is a lone sheep herder and his flock against purple toned mesas, perhaps near the four corners area of the US. Oil on canvas, applied to Masonite.
